Feed yards are prone to bird infestation. This is because birds are drawn to the open areas with grain and water that are free for birds to partake in! Starlings are the predominant pest bird that is known to infest feed yards, but blackbirds and cowbirds are also known to frequent feed yard grain stalls as well.
With feed yards, it is difficult to prevent complete access to the feed. Ideally, grain can be sealed off and birds are unable to get to it which would prevent then from stealing the grain. But in most causes, its just not feasible to cover acres of feeding pens every day!
Feed yard managers are losing money to not just replace the feed that has been eaten by pest birds, but also the labor and cost to replace the damage that they have caused to the property.
